The Department of Cooperatives has registered and handed over the 208th certificate of registration to Golden Crops Agricultural Cooperative Society Limited, a cooperative registered in Shipyard Community, Orange Walk District.Golden Crops is the first Mennonite cooperative comprised of 17 members. The primary activity of this cooperative will be basic grains that are in large demands in Belize; Corn, Beans, Rice and Sorghum. Approximately 1,500 acres of these commodities will be part of their work-programme for the 2009/2010 production season. Addressing the members, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Hon. Rene Montero commended them for the valiant efforts they've placed in the intensive training programmes that were facilitated by the Department of Cooperatives as preliminary cooperative education to ensure that the business is run transparently and efficiently. He emphasized the challenges of working together and urged the members to remain focused on their established set of goals with the objective of working together and to assist the country of Belize to further its economic growth process. The Minister welcomed the new 17 members to the cooperative family of 207 and reiterated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries stands ready to assist in whichever way it can assist the Cooperative to remain strong, profitable and sustainable. ![]()
